Ways to keep your signage strong as days get shorter

I grew up in the era of some pretty awesome Disney movies. I had Incredibles glow-in-the-dark pajamas, my favorite princess was Jasmine from Aladdin, and I had a Finding Nemo-themed birthday party when I turned six. However, one particular clip from a Disney movie fascinated me back in 2006 and still does today: the scene in Cars when the abandoned town of Radiator Springs came back to life for the first time in a very long time.
The village hadn’t been a popular tourist destination for nearly fifty years due to the rerouting of Route 66 that basically took it off the map. As time wore on, the place became a ghost town; no visitors, no signs, no advertising, no business. But, that first night when everything lit up, my nine-year-old self thought it was amazing. So many neon colors filled the screen, and the residents were truly reliving their glory days.
What if I told you that if the residents of Radiator Springs kept their signage strong during the long, dark nights, they could’ve saved their businesses and hometown from the financial burden? Maybe tourists would’ve seen the brightness from a distance and therefore would have made their way toward it.
Obviously, I can’t prove that, but it’s something to think about.
Preserve Your Sign
I know we just observed the summer solstice (the longest day of the year), but let’s think long-term. The days are now getting shorter, which means more darkness is to come. Can your signage stand up to it? Or, will you remain dark, much like Radiator Springs?
I don’t know where your business is located (and can almost guarantee there isn’t any huge highway rerouting going on that could cost you), but the goal of your signage is to relay your message, day and night. If your sign can’t display it properly, you could potentially have issues getting customers through the door.
